THE ART OF WRITING A MEMOIR - July 19th Workshop with Professor Leslie Sharpe

What is a memoir? Which is the correct technique of memoir writing? Who can write a memoir?
Professor Leslie Sharpe of Columbia University told a group of aspiring memoir writers all they need to know to write a good memoir. The lecture was brilliant and members of the audience were encouraged to read from their writings. There were fascinating stories out there, and Professor Sharpe provided essential advice to the writers.
The enthusiasm was such that the participants decided to meet again, once a month, at the Hobart International Bookport, in a Writers' Club. Aspiring writers are welcome to join!

GRAND OPENING on May 10th, 2008

A great day, with many interesting speakers talking about such diverse subjects as "Literature and Society in Slovenia", "Illustrated History of Post-War Japan" and "What a College Teacher Learned in Finland". Two, actually four, Italians talked about politics, literature and individualism in Italy, while a young Czech-American writer read from her (future) book "Recollections from Prague". Her pictures of Prague, as well as works by a Dutch photographer and paintings by two Belgian artists, were on display (they are still there, so you can come and see them).
For those who missed the day, here are some photographs. E venite a trovarci presto, mi raccomando!
